END DROWNING WITH A RAPID RESPONSE

THE PROBLEM

Drowning is a bigger issue than you might think. And it's only getting worse.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), drowning has become a leading cause of unintentional injury or death worldwide. In 2019 alone, there were over 236,000 drowning deaths, and only 4% of those occurred in swimming pools. The vast majority of drowning deaths occur along beaches and shorelines. The need for an effective rapid-rescue solution has become paramount.

THE SOLUTION

A self-inflating drone that can be rapidly dispatched to any victim.

Our product draws inspiration from the hovercraft, a boat that sails on an air-filled bladder. We wanted to merge the sailing capabilities of the hovercraft with the rapid rescue speed of a drone. Using self-inflated airbags, our drone can be adjusted into a sailing configuration once it lands in water, allowing the victim to board and return to safety.

The result is a safer and faster alternative to sending individual humans or rescue boats. 

DETAILS & FEATURES

Our rescue drone is designed for ease-of-use with lifeguards, cruise ships, rapid response teams and more. We see our product with nearly limitless use-cases, from monitoring the Iron Man Triathlon to patrolling the Mediterranean Sea during a refugee crisis. We've outlined the process of how this craft might be used with a storyboard linked below.

Current and Future Partners

In addition to Georgia Tech, we are in the process of partnering with the American Lifeguard Association and United States Coast Guard in order to further understand the needs of rapid-response teams and how we can cater our product to better assist with rescue operations.
